Established in 2019, Women In Science Discovering Our Mojave (WISDOM) is an MDLT internship in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management that provides women from underrepresented communities with opportunities to engage in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields by gaining experience and conducting scientific research. This project is a joint effort between Mojave Desert Land Trust, Conservation Lands Foundation, Bureau of Land Management and Edison International to bring college-aged interns to the Mojave Desert to gain experience in the field.
Our team spent time in the field with the interns documenting their research and process to create a short film detailing the program, the interns experience and supporting the hope that the areas the women are conducting field research might be designated as a Dark Night Sky Sanctuary. The film also fulfilled a visual and outreach component of the grant given to fund the project.
The final media project completed with Mojave Desert Land Trust iincluded a 4 minute film as well as social media vignettes and still photos to help visually portray the WISDOM Internship experience.
